One Piece 30 Day Challenge Day Nineteen Favorite CP9 Member Kaku. Despite being a “villain”, Kaku’s got most of the qualities that comprise the kind of good guy I like. He’s honest, loyal, and he’s a good sport/honorable (to a point). He also has a pretty cool attitude and is calm under pressure. I really enjoyed his fight with Zoro, not only because it was two powerhouses pitted against each other, but also because it was actually really funny and entertaining. Kaku’s yet another example of Oda juxtaposing really amazing, powerful, cool characters with comedy and ridiculousness. Stark’s One Piece 30 Day Challenge Tag.

Favorite Arc

Water 7/Enies Lobby. A few of the reasons I love this/these arc/arcs are pretty shallow: It was when I first noticed the animation was getting good. It was also when Zoro and Sanji started looking more like sexy men and less like cartoon characters.

But there are serious reasons too. One being Usopp. Usopp’s character goes through so much development in these two arcs that it would take an actual essay to put my thoughts into words. Also, the Sogeking song is a big hit in my family.

But really, everyone grows so much during Enies Lobby - emotionally and physically. The fights are some of the best in the series. Everyone gets to show off their new attacks (or some they’ve always had we had just never seen them before). Everyone gets to shine at some point and it’s awesome. And then there’s CP9. Now, I love the Supernovas, but CP9 is still my favorite group of “bad guys”. Kaku is one of the best characters in the series, and I’ve already expressed my love of Lucci. :]

These two arcs are also the perfect example of how brilliantly Oda weaves serious themes like hurt, betrayal, deceit, even anguish, with side-splitting comedy. One minute you’re laughing your ass off at something Chopper said, and the next, you’re sobbing because Luffy is beating the shit out of Usopp. You’re giggling at Zoro making fun of Sanji, and then almost in the same breath, you’re trying to hold back tears as the crew stands on the wall and calls for Robin.

And then Robin screams for Luffy and you’re done. One Piece is your favorite series for the rest of your life.
